bio
Hyeji Nam (b. 1993, Seoul) is an artist, musician and researcher based in Vienna. Her practice is rooted in rewriting historical and cultural narratives through embodied approaches that queer time, memory, and representation. Working across performance, sound, installation, and digital technologies, she creates affective environments where flesh meets code and histories are re-imagined through disobedient, sensorial storytelling.
Interweaving themes of literature, sexuality, social taboos, and cultural politics, Hyeji Nam mobilizes experimental and queer methodologies to disrupt normative modes of knowledge and presence. Her work constructs expanded narrative systems—through glitch, distortion, repetition, and immersive atmospheres—where archives become porous and subjectivity is constantly reconfigured. Digital tools become both medium and metaphor: from voice-processing and AI-generated sound to choreographed interfaces that translate bodily gestures into sonic and visual languages.
Her recent project MANSHIN reimagines Korean Shamanic traditions through choreography, digital media and installations, crafting affective atmospheres that intertwine audience, space, and ritual. She was a fellow at the AI Wilding Lab at CTM Festival 2025 and recipient of the "Spannungsfeld Künstliche Intelligenz 2025" composition award from the Austrian Composers Association.
Her performances and installations have been presented at the Gwangju Biennale(KO), Vienna Art Week, Parallel Vienna, Hyperreality Festival, and Mumok, Belvedere 21(AT) among others.
